NeoES.Orange claims first title on GEST (2nd June 2013)
NeoES.Orange looked dominant on their performance at the just concluded Gigabyte E-Sports Tournament (GEST) Dota 2, and they concluded their strong run by defeating MiTH.Trust on the finals of the competition.
MiTH.TRUST and
NeoES.Orange faced off against each other on a Best-of-Five series for the GEST May Title. Despite of a stronger performance by Orange on the earlier rounds, Trust remains to be a very live underdog as the Thai squad has shown grit that has merited them one GEST title.
Game 1 – Trust secured the Wisp – Chaos Knight combo with the Io first pick, and Orange went with a very standard draft in Lone Druid, Magnus, and Luna core. The Malaysian squad blocked off the Dire Ancients, stopping the cheesy pull of Earthshaker using his fissure. Despite getting the First Blood, Trust found themselves on the back seat of the early matches
Aside from a big team wipe at minute 16, Trust couldn’t really get the pick-offs and initiates that they would have wanted with their line-up. Without those kills, they just get destroyed easily on team fights. With big AoE skills in Eclipse and Reverse Polarity, Orange controlled the group clashes and won themselves the first match of the series.
Game 2 – Trust secured the Alchemist for their carry, while Orange used a very strong late game hero themselves in Alchemist. With both carries having free farm to start the game, Alchemist raced off to a decent early game lead because of an early Hand of Midas and a maxed Goblin’s Greed.
Despite a big kill lead and a Roshan kill, Orange is still down on team gold solely due to Alchemist’s farm. The flash-farming carry had a Battle Fury, Assault Cuirass and Heart of Tarrasque added to his inventory by the 25th minute. MiTH later on made use of their lead, and they slowly clawed back into the kill score. The very potent combination of Queen of Pain and Lifestealer showed forth, and they secured a lot of frags for the team. After some more good battles with nice usage of Global Silence and Echo Slam, MiTH finally pulled the game even.
Game 3 – MiTH tried a very, very cheeky creep blocking by Clockwerk on the bottom lane, while Orange tried to mix it up with a bottom-lane Puck and a middle-lane Lone Druid. With the stacked creep, the Thai team swept across the bottom tier-one tower. Puck also died on that push, and that push happened to be his only death for the game.
He showed magnificent control of his hero, as he lead his team on dictating the tempo the rest of the match. After losing out the early game with their push-oriented line-up, Trust conceded the game after just 23 minutes of play.
Game 4 – The Thai team found their back against the wall, while Orange found themselves only one way away for their first GEST title. MiTH went back to their carry on their win in Alchemist, but Orange showed resolve in challenging Alchemist’s farm. They used a very strong trilane in Sandking, Windrunner and Visage to try contain the farm of Trust’s carry.
Despite getting the kills, Alchemist was significantly slower on his farm on this game compared to the previous one. He also adapted to the opponents trilane by maxing out his stun, but that didn’t help his cause on the farm. Windrunner showed forth some big shakleshots which tilted the game for Orange. Gyrocopter, who had a good start at the top lane where he laned against Magnus, later won the game for Orange with his strong DPS.
With that, NeoES.Orange claims the May GEST Dota 2 Tournament. This is their first Championship on GEST’s main stage. Their Malaysian rival Invasion.MUFC actually had won two GEST titles, while Trust won the other one. With that, Malaysia had claimed three quarters of the GEST titles, and has set their foot atop the SEA Dota 2 scene. The arrival of Zenith this month on GEST is a good sign though, and good things are surely in store in the future.
